New projects make me so happy - I love the challenge of something completely new and out of my comfort zone. Right at the top of that list are children's birthday party invitations. I love when my friends come to me asking for a new theme, or a new design, that I've never considered before. Admittedly, anything very girlie is a little out of my comfort zone. I grew up a tomboy, so sparkly and princesses and dress-up parties are a little over my head. And as a mom of three boys, my life is full of cars and trucks and construction vehicles. Most of my friends are moms of girls, so their requests challenge me creatively and make me think outside the box. So when my friend Ali asked me to design a pony party invitation for her daughter Adrienne, I couldn't wait to get started.
Adrienne was having her party at a horse farm, complete with pony rides and crafts, and Ali wanted something preppy but girlie, in teal and pink. The invitation set the stage for the rest of the decor, and this design quickly became one of my favorites. I love how the plaid kept the design sophisticated, and the pink and teal kept it appropriate for a 4-year-old.
This party was also one of my first experiments in DIY party decor. While I designed and printed the invitations, all of the decor was handled by Ali. I provided her with digital files of each element, and she executed them all on her own. DIY Party Packages will be coming to the shop soon, and are a great way to have a perfectly coordinated party!
